The Layer Method: Solve Rows and Columns, Then Shrink
Here is the whole strategy in one sentence: solve the top row, then the left column, treat them as finished walls, and repeat on the smaller puzzle that remains. A 4x4 becomes a 3x3, which becomes a 2x2, which solves itself. Let me break that down into steps you can actually follow.
Step 1: Solve the top row, left to right
Place tile 1 in its corner first, then tile 2 beside it. Moving a tile where you want it is really about moving the blank: route the empty cell around to the far side of the tile you want to move, then let the tile fall into it. Think of the blank as your hands — it does all the work.
Step 2: The corner-rotate trick (this is the one everyone misses)
The last two tiles of any row will not go in directly — if you place tile 3 and then try to slide tile 4 in beside it, you will wreck what you built. Step 3: Solve the left column, top to bottom

Step 4: Shrink and repeat
You are now looking at a smaller puzzle: a 3x3 living inside your 4x4. Solve its top row, then its left column. Eventually you reach a 2x2 corner with three tiles — just cycle the blank around that little square and they will click into place. If they seem to rotate forever without resolving, a tile earlier in your "finished" rows is actually wrong; recheck and fix it, because on this game every deal is definitely solvable.
Why Every Board You Get Is Solvable
Here is a piece of genuine puzzle mathematics: exactly half of all possible tile arrangements can never be solved, no matter how you slide.
